Types of Talc Deposits
The occurrences of talc themselves can be classified into five types of deposits from which, however only two types of deposits are economically utilizable.
Types of deposits with talc occurrence:
- Type 1 – hydrothermal talc in association with the Mg carbonates
- Type 2 – hydrothermal talc in association with ultra basic rocks
- Type 3 – metamorphic talc in silicon carbonates
- Type 4 – talc in metamorphic bedded iron-ore formations
- Type 5 – sedimentary talc as the secondary occurrence
As already mentioned above, from all types of talc deposits mentioned, only types of deposits 1 and 2 are of significance, while especially in the type of deposit 2, it shall be known in advance, whether contamination by asbestos minerals does not prevent from economic mining of deposit.
Currently, the content of asbestos minerals in the talc products is being generally undesirable, and it is important also in other fields than in cosmetics only. The international association of talc producers thoroughly monitors the health aspects of the talc application.
The most important saying in relation to the teaching about deposits or geology is that there are no two talc deposits in the world alike. The coal, for example, can have the basic composition similar, but every occurrence of talc is being influenced and characterized by its own story of origin.
